According to a July 15, 2008 article from The Associated Press, many parents are opting to draw upon methods they learned in grade school when helping their own children with math homework. Although today's elementary schools tend to concentrate more on concept-based methods than rote formulas, some parents tend to fall back on what is familiar to them (for example, long division). Many educators see a benefit in students gaining exposure to multiple ways of arriving at the same answer.
