According to a July 15, 2008 USA Today article, the concentration level of toddlers is negatively impacted by television - even if the toddler is not actively watching the TV. After observing playtime for 50 children (ranging in age from 1 to 3), researchers found that having a TV on in the background reduced by half the amount of time the children concentrated on their toys. Some experts fear that these findings, coupled with the fact that the majority of young children live in households where a television is on at least half the time, may point to a cumulative loss of concentration skills as individuals grow older.
