A June 10, 2008 USA Today article reports that, according to a recent survey, U.S. children are less likely to read for pleasure. Time spent on schoolwork and homework, having stressful and highly structured schedules, and a lack of books that interest them were listed as possible reasons. The survey also found that children who frequently use the Internet are actually more likely to read for fun on a regular basis.
The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
