According to a June 3, 2008 USA Today article, some college-bound high school graduates are in temporary limbo, hoping to be moved from their first-choice college's wait list and offered admission for the fall term. With some of the more elite schools accepting a higher-than-usual number of wait list candidates, the anticipated "ripple effect" at other colleges has yet to be seen. In the meantime, many students on wait lists have sent deposits to their second-choice schools, in order to ensure they will be able to start college in the fall. If these students are ultimately accepted at their first-choice colleges, then that will open up additional places at the second-choice schools.
