A June 1, 2008 press release reminds families to ensure that students have proper adult supervision as they engage in activities during the summer months. Governor Rod R. Blagojevich, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and the Illinois State Police (ISP) all want families to take the steps necessary to avoid common summer injuries and accidents. Whether biking, swimming, hiking, or engaging in any other popular outdoor activities, children should be closely supervised by adults and taught to follow all safety rules and guidelines.
The press release, which includes a listing of summer safety tips, is available at the ISBE Web site.
