As the year in which all elementary and high school students must pass math and reading tests approaches, about half of the states are reaching their goals for increasing the percentage of passing scores. The federal No Child Left Behind law requires that state tests in these two subjects must be passed by all students by the 2013-14 academic year.
Although about 50% of schools are setting - and meeting - annual milestones on their way to full compliance, there is some concern that an equal number of schools have not established a steady and regular strategy that will allow them to meet the testing requirement by the set deadline.
Read more about schools' progress and the consequences they face if these goals aren't met in the article available on the MSNBC Web site.
