A recent press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warns consumers to beware of "phishing" e-mails that appear to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and discuss economic stimulus checks. These e-mails indicate that specific information - including bank account numbers - must be provided in order to process the individual's economic stimulus check.
College students may be considered prime targets for financial scams, and are encouraged to use caution if they receive such e-mails.
The FBI warns that personal, confidential information should never be provided to an unsolicited source.
Information regarding how to report suspected phishing e-mails is provided at the IRS Web site.
