A February 14, 2008 article from The New York Times reports that, based on a recent College Board report, more public high school students are taking and passing Advanced Placement exams. Over the past 5 years, there has been an increase in the number of students taking Advanced Placement courses (which prepare them for the exam), as well as passing the exams. Since 2002, the percentage of public high school graduates who passed at least one Advanced Placement exam has increased from 11.7 percent to 15 percent.
