While students are encouraged to seek guidance from trusted adults, and should make every effort to put their best foot forward during the college application process, they need to ensure that what they submit to admissions officers accurately reflects their own skills and abilities. If a professional editor or consultant makes so many changes to an admission essay that it no longer sounds like it was written by a teenager, it may ultimately hurt the student's chances of being admitted to the college.
