Colleges Providing Free Access to Course Materials via the Internet
12/31/2007

A December 29, 2007 USA Today article reports that an increasing number of elite colleges across the country are utilizing the Internet to provide access to materials from some of their most popular courses and campus events - at no charge. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which initially launched "OpenCourseWare," has been joined by a consortium of over 100 other elite colleges that also offer their own open courseware. While able to benefit from viewing materials online, those who access the information over the Internet are not able to participate in class discussions, ask professors for assistance, or earn college credit.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
