Online Courses Becoming Increasingly Popular with College Students
11/28/2007

According to a November 27, 2007 USA Today article, distance learning is becoming increasingly popular with college students. Students with families and/or full-time jobs are particularly likely to consider distance learning, because its flexibility fits well with busy schedules. Because online courses often lack the structured schedule of traditional classes, students who are self-motivated and well-organized seem the most likely to succeed with distance learning. The 2007 Sloan Survey of Online Learning found that online enrollments have increased annually by more than 20% over the past 5 years. Some college professors have expressed concern that, depending on the subject matter, students may not receive the same level of instruction in an online course that they would have in a traditional classroom setting.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
