Encouraging Safe Living Environments for College Students
11/9/2007

A November 9, 2007 article from The Journal News (Lower Hudson Valley, New York) provides tips for parents to encourage college students to make sure their living environment is safe. While college administrators can assist with keeping students safe when they live on campus, they are responsible for their own safety if they live in off-campus apartments. The article recommends that parents supply their students with a "live-on-your-own safety kit," including items such as a smoke detector, carbon monoxide alarm and fire extinguisher. Students should also be warned to keep their living quarters clean, to avoid infestation of disease-carrying insects.

The article is available at the Lower Hudson Online Web site.
