Study: Schools Serving Less Junk
10/24/2007

A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a trend toward healthier food options at schools around the country.

Fewer french fries (down from 40% of schools to only 19%) and sugary drinks, and more bottled water availability (nearly half of schools, up from one-third) are all seen as strategies to encourage healthy habits. Additionally, "Students need daily exercise," according to Jan Harp Domene, president of the national PTA, to prevent "growing a whole generation of couch potatoes." Although about 90% of school districts require physical education, oftentimes, it's not on a daily basis.
