An October 4, 2007 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) encourages students, parents and school administrators to celebrate World Teachers' Day on Friday, October 5, 2007. The day is designated for recognizing excellent teachers who have made a difference in the lives of their students, as well as in the surrounding community. As part of the World Teachers' Day activities, the 2007 Illinois History Teacher of the Year (Rockford educator Theresa Bartsch) will be honored at the Illinois Council for the Social Studies Convention. On October 13th, the Illinois 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year will be announced during the 33rd annual Those Who Excel banquet in Decatur.
