According to a September 17, 2007 article from The Associated Press, since 2004 there has been a significant decrease in the volume of high-calorie soft drinks being sold at schools across the country. Based on results of a recent industry report, the article indicates that the move toward healthier drinks (such as bottled water and unsweetened juice) is due in part to a May 2006 agreement by industry leaders to stop selling non-diet soft drinks at most public and private schools over the next three years. In addition, some states have passed legislation which bans the sale of soda in schools.
The article is available at the NBC-5 (Chicago) Web site.
