A September 11, 2007 article from USA Today explores how children's moving away to college can sometimes be a more difficult transition for the parent than it is for the student. College administrators report an increase in the number of parents who, after bringing their children to college at the beginning of the academic year, stay in the area for an extra day or two in order to delay having to say good-bye. While these parents may intend to simply help their children get settled in on campus, some experts believe they are actually making it more difficult for students to get acclimated to their new surroundings. To help address the situation, some colleges now offer special sessions for parents on move-in day, including a send-off ceremony or reception where parents can get their final questions answered.
