Know What Homeowners Insurance Covers for College Students
8/27/2007

An August 27, 2007 article from the Chicago Sun-Times reminds families that the parents' homeowners or renters insurance will sometimes cover property that is stolen or damaged while a student lives on campus. Some insurance policies will include on-campus property up to only a portion (for example, 10%) of the policy's maximum coverage. Property of students who live off campus will likely not be covered by the parents' insurance policies, so they would need to purchase their own renters insurance. Families are encouraged to contact their insurance companies if they have questions regarding specific policies.

The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.
