According to a July 27, 2007 article from The Associated Press, many schools across the country are devoting less time in their curriculums to penmanship. Under pressure for students to perform well in subjects that appear on standardized tests, such as reading and math, writing skills (both printed and cursive) are taking a back seat. Among schools that do devote time to teaching students how to write, some are opting to teach simpler, less ornate styles that may be easier to read.
