Latest Edition of Collegiate Dictionary Reflects Evolving Language
7/11/2007

A July 11, 2007 article (from Internet Broadcasting Systems, Inc. and The Associated Press) reports that the latest edition of Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary will incorporate several new words from the modern culture. Ginormous (a combination of "gigantic" and "enormous"), speed dating (the latest trend in meeting people) and crunk (a form of Southern rap music) are among this year's new additions. While some linguistic conservatives may disagree with the inclusion of some of these words, others feel that the dictionary should include any commonly-used word that is likely to have staying power.

The article is available at the NBC5 (Chicago) Web site.
