According to a June 20, 2007 article from The Associated Press, new technology helps colleges prevent cheating from occurring while students take exams for online courses at home. A camera, which is installed in the homes of students enrolled in online courses, captures and records 360-degree images as exams are being taken. A microphone also records noises that take place during the exam. Any significant noises picked up on the audio recording trigger a flag to be placed on the visual image recording, making it easier for college administrators to review those points in the recordings they may be suspect. Troy University (Alabama) plans to begin using the technology next fall, at a cost of $125 per student.
