The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) has announced Washington Week, to be held March 1 - 8, 2008 in Washington, DC. During USSYP Washington Week, two high school students from each state, chosen by their state departments of education, will "learn about the history and procedures of the Senate, meet the highest level elected officials in the federal government and be encouraged to explore a career in public service." Each delegate will also receive a one-time $5,000 scholarship to the college or university of his or her choice.
Students interested in applying for Washington Week can get applications and more information from their high school principal or the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Details about the program, including a copy of the USSYP Yearbook and contact information for the ISBE selection administrator, are available on the Web site of the Hearst Foundation, sponsor of Washington Week.
