Students Develop Math and Science Skills While Engaging in Global Environment
5/21/2007

A May 21, 2007 article from The Associated Press spotlights the Global Challenge, a Vermont-based competition which encourages students to use their math and science skills to combat global warming. In addition to stretching their academic abilities, the contest exposes U.S. students to a global environment by teaming them with students from other countries. A total of 58 U.S. teams joined students in China, Japan and India to research, develop and write a professional business plan for technological solutions to global warming. Among the projects entered in the contest were generating electricity from temperature variations in the ocean, and running vehicles on alternative energy sources. The competition, which awards at least $2,500 to each winner, is funded by a National Science Foundation Grant. Winners will be announced in June.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
