College Wait Lists Place Some Students' Plans on Hold
5/11/2007

In a May 10, 2007 article, the Los Angeles Times spotlights California students who find themselves in a situation encountered by young adults throughout the nation - being placed on a college's admission wait list. Students who are placed on wait lists may be offered admission at a later date, if previously accepted students decline. In the age of the Internet, the trend is for individual students to apply to multiple colleges. Consequently, colleges are having a more difficult time projecting what percentage of their initial admission offers will actually be accepted. By maintaining a wait list, colleges are better able to meet their enrollment goals. Students who are placed on wait lists sometimes have to put final plans on hold, until they know if they will eventually receive an admission offer.

The article is available at the Los Angeles Times Web site.
