Lawmakers Considering Mandatory Internet Safety Courses for Illinois Students
5/10/2007

According to a May 10, 2007 article from WSIL-TV (Southern Illinois), Illinois legislators are considering a bill (SB 1472) that would require all students (from kindergarten through 12th grade) to take Internet safety courses. If the bill becomes law, the mandatory courses would make students aware of the dangers of online predators and posting personal information. Educators indicate that, in addition to raising students' awareness regarding potential dangers on the Internet, teachers and parents also need to be better informed. The article includes a link to a 15-question online quiz for parents, provided by the Illinois Attorney General's office to help raise awareness.

The article is available at the WSIL-TV Web site.
