2008-09 Acknowledgement Letters
ISAC will send a MAP application receipt acknowledgement letter and a MAP Rights & Responsibilities form to students who reside in Illinois, indicate a MAP-participating school on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and whose FAFSA data passes the federal Social Security Number (SSN) match. The letter acknowledges receipt of the student's application, provides a brief description of MAP and includes a number of MAP Paid Credit Hours used to date. It does not, however, include an annual award amount since that is part of the institution's award letter.

ISAC will send only one acknowledgement letter to each applicant. The school, rather than ISAC, notifies the applicant of changes in eligibility status. An acknowledgement letter will not be sent to a student for an initial SAR transaction with a calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) equal to or greater than $9,000, unless the student is in a default status (the corresponding default letter is produced and mailed regardless of the EFC).  Subsequent transactions in which the EFC is reduced below $9,000 would receive the acknowledgement letter.  As a reminder, acknowledgement letters are dated and mailed three business days after the ISAC processing of the ISIR record.

The following are specific types of 2008-09 MAP correspondence that will be generated for applicants by ISAC. The Letter ID list below outlines the eligibility message code that appears in the upper right hand corner of the corresponding letter.

Letter ID Eligibility Message Code

080

Ineligible - Default Status

Sent to applicants whose ISAC-guaranteed student loan is in default. Applicants are instructed to call a College Zone Counselor (800.899.4722) with questions regarding the default status.

081

Ineligible - Eligibility Used

Sent to applicants who have received MAP grants totaling 135 or more MAP Paid Credit Hours of eligibility.

082

Ineligible - Default Status & Eligibility Used

Sent to applicants whose ISAC-guaranteed student loan is in default and who have also received MAP grants totaling 135 or more MAP Paid Credit Hours of eligibility. Applicants are instructed to call a College Zone Counselor (800.899.4722) with questions regarding the default status.

100

MAP Acknowledgement

Applicants are informed that ISAC is in receipt of their FAFSA information for the 2008-09 academic year. A MAP Rights & Responsibilities form is also included with each letter.

200

MAP and Silas Purnell Illinois Incentive for Access (IIA) Acknowledgement

Sent to applicants meeting the criteria outlined in the preceding paragraph (100) and also indicating a freshman grade level and having a zero EFC.  A MAP Rights & Responsibilities form is also included with each letter, as well as an IIA Information Sheet explaining the IIA program as part of the mailing.

777

Shut Down Status

Sent to applicants when MAP funding has been depleted for an academic year indicating that ISAC has shut down corrections processing that would result in new award announcements or increases to existing grants, based on new federal SAR data received.

888

Suspension

ISAC continues to allow the announcement of MAP awards until projections indicate that the dollars appropriated will be exhausted by the number of awards already announced for the year. Once this date is determined, ISAC sends a letter to applicants whose initial FAFSA is received by the federal processor on or after the determined date. This letter indicates that, should MAP funding become available, their school will notify them if they are eligible.
