When to Apply
For the 2010-11 academic year, the FAFSA may not be submitted prior to January 1, 2010 however, it should be completed as soon as possible after January 1.  Schools and state agencies typically have priority consideration dates or deadlines associated with their gift assistance programs, so the earlier the FAFSA is filed, the better.  Any 2010-11 applications received by the federal processor prior to January 1, 2010 will not be processed.

The priority consideration dates for the Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) are based on the date the FAFSA is received by the federal processor.  In addition to the application receipt date, certain data elements from the FAFSA are used in determining MAP eligibility.

In order to receive priority consideration for the Monetary Award Program, the FAFSA receipt date will be used by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) to determine if a student meets the priority consideration date (the below dates are based on annual funding by the Illinois General Assembly).

  • First-time applicants – no later than September 30, 2010; and
  • Continuing applicants – no later than August 15, 2010
