What's New
Below are highlights of the changes and enhancements made to the 2010-11 FAFSA and delivery process including updates and enhancements resulting from annual and legislative changes. Further details about the changes and process can be found on the page addressing the specific topic found in the right-hand menu of this page, in the 2010-11 Summary of Changes for the Application Processing System Guide and at FSA-Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP).
Highlights of the changes:
- Paper FAFSA colors are blue and purple.
- Paper FAFSA - the overall design and layout of the form has not changed. Several data elements were revised, removed and added.
- The PDF FAFSA can be completed on the computer and printed or can be printed and completed by hand. The printed and signed PDF FAFSA can be mailed to the Federal Student Aid for processing.
- Significant redesign changes made to FAFSA on the Web (FOTW) to provide enhanced navigation and other features that simplify the application process.
- FOTW web address will be updated from http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
- FOTW worksheet updated to address changes made on FOTW. A PDF version of the worksheet can be downloaded from the FOTW site or paper versions can be ordered in bulk via FSA Publications.
- Dependent students who have special circumstances can submit a FOTW application without parental income and asset information.
- Department of Defense Match was added.
- New IRS data retrieval process.
- Two Pell Grants in one year.
- EFC calculation modified based on changes in the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA).
- Added and modified several Central Processing System (CPS) edits.
- Updated the post office number in the mailing address on the paper SAR.
- The SSN embedded in the bar code on the paper SAR will be replaced with a cross-cycle identifier which provides the CPS with an alternate way to identify a student without printing the SSN on the SAR.
- Record layout changes on the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR).
- Additional CPS edits, comment codes, SAR & ISIR changes and FAFSA on the Web edits to accommodate FAFSA redesign.
